In its second year…teens with experience and culinary passion compete live at the Chattanooga Market , Sunday, June 9th, under the pressure of patrons watching their every move.
The 2019 Teen Cook-off is the first of it’s kind at Chattanooga Market. The goal is to showcase culinary talent from high school students in the state of Tennessee. By competing at Chattanooga Market in this event, students are demonstrating a number of things:
- Culinary skill
- Use of farmers market goods
- Passion for cooking
The theme for the 2019 Teen Cook off will be Dining Al Fresco. All students will be given a choice between Springer Mountain Farm’s chicken breasts or boneless thighs to incorporate into their recipe. They will each be given a stipend to shop for all other ingredients at the Market prior to their cook time of one hour. A small pantry of basic ingredients will also be offered. Once the timer starts, Market patrons will be able to see these shining stars thinking quick and using their best efforts to woo the judge’s panel.
Three judges will vote on the prepared dish of each contestant based on several categories: taste, presentation, use of ingredients and overall favorite. Judges include local celebrity Chefs Rebecca Barron and Charlie Loomis, as well as local culinary instructor Steven Knoppe of Ooltewah High School. A generous Lodge Cast Iron prize package will be presented to the winning team.
