|This Sunday, September 23rd, Chattanooga Market promises to be a little spicy, a little messy, but a whole lot of fun.
It’s the Scenic City Wing competition at Chattanooga Market – with 6 local eateries showing off their wing recipes. Patrons can sample the unique tastes of Chattanooga’s best wings in this blazing annual event and cast their vote for bragging rights to the Scenic City’s Best Wings of 2018. The event is presented by Market sponsor Springer Mountain Farms—all of the wings have been graciously donated ensuring participants will be enjoying the freshest farm-raised chicken.
This year’s Scenic City Wing contestants are:
- Owl’s Nest
- Alchemy Spice/1885 Grille
- Feed Table & Tavern
- Jack’s BBQ
- Flying Squirrel
- Kozi Kitchen
A $10 ticket gets folks 2 wings from each of 6 restaurants. Importantly, the proceeds from this event will benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Market patrons are invited to be a part of the solution to end hunger in our community. The Chattanooga Area Food Bank envisions a region where access to healthy food helps people move toward greater self-sufficiency, and where the Chattanooga Area Food Bank leads efforts to end hunger in our time.
Last year’s winning teams were 1885 Grille/Alchemy Spice (People’s Choice) and FEED Table & Tavern (Judge’s Choice).
1885 Grille boasts wings seasoned with fresh blended spices from Alchemy Spice, a long-time Market vendor. Their winning wings are featured daily at the 1885 Grille location in St. Elmo. Team members Ben Gordon of Alchemy Spice, and Michael “Chops” Fulgham of 1885 Grill are looking forward to returning to the cook off next weekend. “Our award-winning process starts with a marinade of “Proud to be American” spice blend before being lightly battered, deep fried, and tossed in our special Carolina Gold Sauce. We’re confident we will win again, because we start with the best seasonings — Alchemy Spice!”
Winning food sporting events is nothing new to Feed’s Table & Tavern Chef Charlie Loomis who was the 2016 champion in the Southern Wings Showdown, a Springer Mountain Farm hosted event in Atlanta. The event covers the entire southeast region. Rumor has it that Loomis plans to unveil a new wing recipe this year to “change things up”.
It is the fourth year in a row these two teams have claimed the winning spots.
